Lost in Time (Weekly Writing Challenge: 1,000 Words, Take Two)

(Ok, although in my story this happened in Seville Spain, I have no idea where this place is. I am guessing it’s a small city somewhere around Spain, or possible Portugal. The Forget Me Not flower doesn’t have much smell in day time until evening and night,.. So everything is pretty much made up)

Here you go. Hope you enjoy this easy cosy feel good Disney Hollywood style love story.

Lost in Time

images  (from http://www.fanpop.com/)    Ryan and Emily’s brother Michael were best friends. Rather than hanging out with other girls her age, making up, dressing up, talking about other girls or boys, after school, Emily liked to tail around Michael and Ryan, running around in the woods, chasing the birds, catching little frogs, climbing in and out of the tree house. The tree house were their secret meeting place.  They lined up and secured the little branches one by one to the tree with rope Michael sneaked out from his father’s garage. On weekends they’d go fishing and bungie jumping, or rather swinging like Tarzan, over the running creek.from http://moondanceranchco.blogspot.com/2010/10/our-town.htmlhttp://moondanceranchco.blogspot.com   They were like the 3 musketeers having the whole world with them. The two boys definitely enjoy having a princess around them.

Ever since his parents went their seperate way, Ryan stayed with his grandpa and learned how to fend for himself.  He always took care of Emily like a big brother. Wherever Emily was down, Ryan always found ways to cheer her up. Emily loved and treasured all those little wood carvings Ryan made for her: big teeth rabbit, cute mantis, big tale fox.

il_570xN.211250981http://www.etsy.com/   Life was simple and sweet for the two young innocent hearts as long as they were together.

Then Emily’s father got a job offer. They had to move away. Papa Todd had to shoved the screaming and kicking Emily into the car. Emily didn’t understand why she had to go. She was holding the little zebra and blue wild flower Ryan gave her. Looking through the rear windshields, tears kept streaming down her face, she dared not brink her eyes, for fear that Ryan will disappear quicker. This time, there’s nothing Ryan can do to cheer her up. Ryan was really sad standing alone in front of Emily’s house, halfway frozen, watching the car disappear in the dust. He then understand what a broken heart was. His buddies, he considered part of his family, had gone….

As time went by with more movings, Emily and Ryan lost contact of each other. Ryan eventually quit school working here and there taking care of his aging grandpa. After his grandpa passed away, Ryan saved enough and started his import and export business. Emily on the other hand, went to college, got married after 2 years. The marriage didn’t last. It was an abusive situation. Emily was thankful that her parents were there for her. Still she felt like a failure. She joined the Peace Corps missions in North Africa. Helping unfortunate people surviving in such harsh condition, Emily realized her own value in this world. She is getting stronger and happier. After 1 year of humanitarian work, she’s ready to go back to start a new life. On the way back to the States, their whole little Peace Corps group decided to stop over in Seville Spain for 2 days.http://www.destination360.com/europe/spain/seville

They had so much fun with the Flamenco music and dancing,/>http://www.examiner.com/article/it-s-hot-ensemble-espanol-s-36th-american-spanish-dance-music-festival; visiting cathedrals in different plazas, walking around the narrow winding cobbled stone street, bargaining for jewelries and knick knacks to bring home, and hopping around different tapas, standing  mingling with the locals, washing down with sherry the fritadura modesto (fried strips of onions, green and red peppers, topped with breaded prawns…http://calderoncasallas.blogspot.com/2009/04/tapas-de-espana.html

So why is Ryan in Spain? Ryan had come to inspect and arrange 4 containers of Portuguese cork jewelry, cork floor and port wine to the States. After visiting different wineries trying out different port wines, talking story to the owners and checking out the cork goods in the warehouse, Ryan flew to Seville to visit his friend. His friend introduced him to Jose to talk about new business.

They were drinking the port wine next to the roof top pool, tasting the priced “jamón ibérico de bellota”, http://occamskatana.blogspot.com/2011/04/j-is-for-jamon-iberico-de-bellota.html, the free-range pigsfed in acorns, cured for a long time. With the finest ham simply to die for paired with Manchego cheese melted in his mouth, sipping the sweet port wine from Portugal, looking at the golden orange sun slowing fading into the horizon, Ryan felt very contented. There always seems something missing in his life. He didn’t know what. He’s good at brushing that off  and enjoy his life.

All of a suden, several policemen stormed onto the roof top yelling pointing their guns at them.  They cut open the sample leather boots Jose asked Ryan to take to a business friend back in the States and found some white powder bags hidden inside. All three of them were handcuffed and locked into an 8×8 jail cell, interrogated by the police one by one. Eventually, after quite some time and money spent, Ryan finally cleared up the mess.

Today is the last day before his flight home. Ryan is going down the hill to get some knick knack before the trip. Soon after he stepped onto the cobbled stone, he heard a female calling his name. Before he can clear his thought, Emily is already in his arms. Ryan couldn’t believe his luck.  He’s shocked, numbed, frozen. Then a huge emotion hit him like a wave. The hair on his back stood up. That’s his buddy and family. It’s always been ever since he can remember.  He’s never felt so good, so at ease and relax, so in tune with the universe. He knows now what’s missing in his life. He felt so stupid all these years have been wasted. This time, he is not going to let her out of his sight ever again.images   images

God, thank you thank you thank you.Emily says that in her mind. As far as she knows, she’s home. The scent of the cool breeze of the Mediterranean sea from Ryan fills everyfibre of her whole being with happiness. It brings tears in her eyes. All the happy childhood memory of the innocent moments flash back to her mind. She never ever wants to let go.

They don’t know how long they are holding each other. The rest of the world and time cease to exist. It feels like a century has gone by and they are making up for the lost time….

Every where is lined up with the little blue Forget-me-Not, the wild flower Ryan gave to Emily when she moved away.Everybody is ducking through Ryan’s pair of live size cork pigs hanging over their head. Ryan specially carved for the occasion. Everybody got a kick out of it.  The air is fill with sunshine and the sweet aroma of the flower well into the sunset and moon lit night…

They went back to Seville from time to time, holding hand in hand, walking through those winding narrow street of Seville. Life couldn’t be better. A few years later, little Bonnie is joining in their walk12306283-heart-made--8203--8203-of-forget-me-not-flowers-on-white-wooden-backgroundhttp://www.123rf.com/photo
